About the "POPS" Program
'1st Master The Fundamentals'
POPS Basketball Academy started offering quality basketball programs in 1992 and continues to be committed to
offering quality coaching and personal instruction for youth basketball players (ages 9-18) on the South Shore. 
We strive to “1st Master The Fundamentals” teaching the game in its proper form while developing lifelong friendships and having a great deal of fun along the way.

"POPS"
The name "POPS" is derived from Coach Wholey’s father who was a constant influence on youth in the area as he was committed to keeping young people in the area involved and active in sports.  We hope that you join us in one of our programs as we take a great deal of pride in helping you reach your potential as a basketball player.

About the Director

Coach Wholey has recently been named Head Men's Basketball Coach at Framingham State College and has been coaching youth and high school basketball players in Massachusetts for over 30 years.  His coaching experience includes 4 years at the collegiate level for Bridgewater State and Stonehill College, as well as, 23 years at the high school level in Hull, Norwell, Marshfield & most recently at Pembroke High School with over 260 wins as a high school coach and numerous tournamnet appearances and several South Sectional Semifinalist teams.

In addition, his AAU teams have competed nationally & won 2 State Championships & 1 New England Championship while twice finishing in the top 20 at the AAU National Tournament against the top talent in the country.  His POPS players have gone onto play at the collegiate level at numerous colleges/universities including: Assumption, Bates, Babson, Brandeis, Bridgewater State, Endicott, Emerson, Holy Cross, New Hampshire, Roger Williams, Tufts, Vermont, Wheaton College, & many more.

As a player, Coach Wholey played at the University of Maine (Orono) after originally attending American University and participating in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).  At the University of Maine, he was voted All-Yankee Conference during the 1975-76 season while leading all of NCAA Division I New England in scoring.
